Guide to Visiting Mount Rushmore with Kids

There are few national landmarks as iconic as Mount Rushmore, the massive granite sculpture in South Dakota depicting four of the country's most beloved presidents.  In fact, the carvings may be one of the first images that come to mind when you simply think of the American landscape: figure heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, surrounded by the majestic Black Hills and a forest of Ponderosa pine trees (cue the patriotic music!)  The site attracts more than two million visitors a year, and this year, that included my family.  And while Mount Rushmore is definitely the big draw to a vacation in this part of the country, it's also a doorway to an area brimming with family attractions.
