Wow…I had forgotten how summer eats into our savings. Literally, eats into it. My kids are so active all summer that their appetites are enormous…just like my grocery bills! Our solution? Well, we’re eating in a lot, planning our meals in advance, and, when we do go out, frequenting restaurants where kids eat free. Yup, you read that right…there are a few area restaurants that offer free meals to kids with the purchase of adult meals. We've also made a list for Central CT. Bon appetit!

The Cookhouse, New Milford, CT: Visit New Milford’s Cookhouse on Monday nights when kids eat free with the purchase of an accompanying adult meal. The kids’ menu features many of the barbecue specialties for which The Cookhouse has become known (don’t skip the cornbread!).

Greenwood’s Grille and Ale House, Bethel, CT: Head to Greenwood’s Grille and Ale House on Tuesdays when kids eat free from the children’s menu with the purchase of an adult entrée. The kids’ menu offers classic burgers, grilled cheeses and chicken tenders, while the French Onion Soup and Spinach Salad on the adult menu look pretty tempting to me!

Pippa’s, Danbury, CT: Wednesday’s are family night at Pippa's, where kids eats free between 5pm and 8pm with the purchase of 2 adult entrees. The extensive menu has something to tempt everyone – from wings to burgers to salads. Burgers run $9-$10.
