Somebody turn on the lights!
The Mission Inn's Festival of Lights gets started with a Grand Switch-On Ceremony.
First they turn on the lights, then they bring out the stars: guests are treated to a star-studded concert, featuring performances by some big names in music, including Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray; Skip Martin, Grammy Award Winner of the Dazz Band and former lead singer of Kool & The Gang for 20 years; Jason Scheff, the longtime lead vocalist of the legendary band Chicago; Wally Palmar, the lead singer of The Romantics; Elliot Lurie, the lead singer of Looking Glass; Tommy Tutone; and Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean, all backed by the electrifying Live 61 high-energy dance band.
Another luminary joins in the celebration: the legendary comedian and actor Cheech Marin, whose eponymous Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture is located next to the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa.
The Switch-On ceremony also marks the return of the ice-skating rink provided by the city of Riverside and their generous sponsors.
Arriving early is recommended.
